A brief History

In 1989, St. Jude’s District Church Council, under Rev. I.C.M. Ndubuisi (Umuoji), approved the establishment of a Commercial School, in Orafite. The Council appointed some people to undertake a feasibility study, In the course of study, it was discover that the proprietor of the then mainland Commercial School, Orafite- Mr. Levi Okeke of Nnewi, would give out his school, which he established in 1983, at Nkwo Edo market square, Orafite. The Council negotiated and took it over. The school was established in 1989 as a joint venture between St. Luke’s Districts and renamed it – All Saint’s Secondary School, Orafite. In 1994, it was handed over to Nnewi Archdeaconry, under the then Archdeacon, Ven. G.I.N. Okpala (now, His Grace, the retired Archbishop of the Niger Province). 

The then All Saints’ Secondary School continue till 2015. The birth of Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Convent, Orafite began with the meeting of Joint Diocesan Board and Finance, held on 10th December 2014, at the St. Andrew’s D.C.C Nnewi. The meeting decided that All Saints’ Secondary School, Orafite transits from co-educational status to single sex (female) educational institution. In 2015, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Nnewi, Rt. Rev. G.I.N. Okpala (JP, OON), during a meeting held at St. Mark’s Church Nnewichi – Nnewi, announced the new name of the school as “DAME IRENE OKWUOSA MEMORIAL CONVENT, ORAFITE”. Rev. Tochukwu Egwuatu was posted as the first principal and Chaplain of the school. On 12th September, 2015 the school took off with forty-eight (48) pupils. On 1st September, 2017, Mrs. Chiamaka Ojukwu took over the educational and Administrative leadership of the school from Rev. I.T. Egwuatu, while in January, 2018, Rev. Noble Nwokedi arrived and became the chaplain of the school. 

Revd. Onyedikachukwu D. Enemchukwu is the current chaplain of the school and the duo has worked tirelessly in propelling the school to its current status, enjoying the unalloyed support from the Diocese and huge financial support/motivation from our benefactor – Engr. (Dr.) Emeka Okwuosa. On 8th July, 2018, during the synod hosted in Orafite, the foundation laying of this ultramodern school complex was laid by His Grace, The Most Revd. Prof. G.I.N. Okpala (JP, OON), solely financed by the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation. On this day, 23rd December 2019 would remain historic for all of us, as it represents the beginning of a new phase as this sophisticated edifice, fully furnished educational complex is dedicated by His Lordship, Rt. Revd. Ndubuisi Obi (Bishop of Nnewi Diocese).

3. To raise students who can comfortably compete with world class students.
