Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary [BUMSEM], Nnewi was founded on 15th of October 1999 by the then Bishop of Nnewi Diocese The Most Revd Prof. G.I.N Okpala (JP, OON). The Rt. Revd Ndubuisi Chukwuka Obi the Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Nnewi is the Proprietor of the Seminary. The seminary is located at Ugwuokwenu, Okpunoeze Uruagu, Nnewi. It is part of the popular Eke-eze CMS land, off Coscharis Road, Umudim, Nnewi. The entire compound which measures about 7 hectares of land is completely secured with cemented block fance. It has a serene environment, very conducive for learning.
The school has six (6) arms of classes of Junior and Senior streams. A well equipped state of the art Mathematics Laboratory, in addition to highly sophisticated computer and science laboratories and a skill acquisition centre.
The Philosophy of the Seminary
The philosophy of Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary is built o the truism that sound education makes a sound personality.
The philosophy is founded on the following principles:
The critical nature of adolescent period requires a secondary education that will enable the child successfully launch him into a career and or further educational level that would make him live a fulfilled life. It is therefore reasonable and crucial to help the child lay a firm foundation by giving him the type of secondary education that will put his three domains in the pedestal position to trail the route of successful and useful adulthood.
The adolescent should be educated to develop and exhibit such values as self discipline, hard work, habit of godly obedience and the will power to resist evil in all its ramifications.
Creativity and curiosity dominate the inquiring mind of the adolescent. At this stage he needs to be properly guided in the different skills and subject areas that will enable him not only benefit from but also to help him to be immersed in scientific and technological world around him.
The education of the young as being championed by this seminary is the joint concern and effort of the Government, Nnewi Diocese and the Parents. The teachers and parent do work hands in gloves to achieve the fore-seen objectives of the seminary.
Aims and Objectives
In line with the Nigerian national policy on education, the general aim of this seminary is to train young people who will be well equipped morally, spiritually, academically and socially in joining other well- meaning citizen in building and sustaining a godly, just, free and self-reliant society.
BUMSEM specific objective are, therefore as follows:
- To produce adolescent who will be alive unto God throughout their lives.
- To enliven, enlarge and sharpen the boy child’s intellect and faculty.
- To fully assist the child to value and imbibe Christ-like virtue and values.
- To prepare the boys of our age to become spiritual and moral giants, academic geniuses as well as skilful and spirited leader of tomorrow.
- To train diverse mental grade boys to become excellent academic stars who will immensely contribute to the much needed scientific and technological development of the black world.
